Massive Attack Will Release Mad Professor’s Dub Remix of Mezzanine

Massive Attack Will Release Mad Professor's Dub Remix of Mezzanine

Back in 1994, legendary trip-hop collective Massive Attack released Protection, the follow-up to their brilliant debut album, Blue Lines. And while it wasn’t as universally loved as Blue Lines, the album has many strengths that make it a classic today.

What was universally loved however was No Protection, the full-length dub remix of the entire album by UK dub artist Mad Professor. No Protection was a solid re-imagining of the album that gave it depth and character that was somewhat lacking on the original.

What is not widely known is that in 1998, Mad Professor applied the same treatment to Mezzanine, arguably Massive Attack’s best album. But this remix album was never released aside from a couple of the tracks released as b-sides.

The album artwork from Massive Attack Vs Mad Professor II. Looks nice!

Last year, Massive Attack made history by being the first musical artist ever to preserve an entire album in strands of DNA. Now, Mezzanine is once again returning to the public consciousness (not that it ever left). On September 23rd Massive Attack Vs Mad Professor Part II will finally see the light of day as a vinyl LP release.

The LP will be released by UMC / Virgin EMI and will feature 8 remixes from Mezzanine, which will include versions of classic songs like “Inertia Creeps” and “Teardrop.”

    The full track list:

A1 Metal Banshee (Mad Professor Mix 1)
    A2 Angel (Angel Dust)
A3 Risingson (Setting Sun Dub 2)
    A4 Teardrop (Mazaruni Dub 1)
B1 Inertia Creeps (Floating On Dubwise)
    B2 Exchange (Mountain Steppers Dub)
    B3 Wire (Leaping Dub)
B4 Group Four (Security Forces Dub)

This will be a must-own release for Massive Attack fans or any fan of very good music for that matter. Not to mention that very cyberpunk-esque artwork. Who wouldn’t want that displayed on their shelf?

As of right now, there is no word on whether or not this will be released on digital or streaming services, but here’s hoping!
