Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 Is Coming This July

Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 is headed to Nintendo Switch on July 28, 2022

Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 was announced way back in the ancient year of 2020. But now an actual release date has been announced by developer Inti Creates. It looks like the game is due to be released on July 28th, 2022. The game is going to be released on Nintendo Switch and will be priced at $29.99. The company also released an official announcement trailer, introduced by none other than the legendary Keiji Inafune, who happens to be the executive producer of Gunvolt 3.

In addition to a digital release, a physical release is planned in collaboration with Limited Run Games. So far it seems like the only platform mentioned for release is Nintendo Switch, but I’d imagine it will come to all other platforms eventually.

With the release of Azure Striker Gunvolt 3, the series will now be a proper trilogy. There have been spinoffs of course such as the Luminous Avenger iX games and the 8-bit demakes Mighty Gunvolt and Mighty Gunvolt Burst. In addition Gunvolt himself has appeared as crossover DLC in other games such as Inti Creates’ own Blaster Master Zero.

The Gunvolt series began in 2014 with the digital-exclusive 3DS game Azure Striker Gunvolt. In 2016, Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 continued the story of hero Gunvolt alongside his rival Copen. And now, in 2022, Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 finally picks up where 2 left off as an official sequel. New protagonist Kirin fights along side Gunvolt, allowing players to switch characters on the fly, adding a new element to the series’ high-speed 2D action gameplay. Familiar faces will return as “Image Pulses,” a new system that allows players to use characters from Gunvolt’s past in combat with over 150 varieties available! Thanks to the cooperation of Keiji Inafune (LEVEL5 comcept CCO), series executive producer / action supervisor, Inti Creates has evolved Gunvolt 3‘s action to exceed the expectations of modern players on the Nintendo Switch platform. Players will be blown away by the speedy and precise action on display in Azure Striker Gunvolt 3!

    Press Release

Inti Creates is of course known for their work on some of the best games in the Mega Man series such as Mega Man Zero and Mega Man X. Gunvolt is the company’s own spiritual successor to the Mega Man series, while also differentiating itself greatly from it. The Mega Man DNA has always been present in Gunvolt and its spinoffs. It’s one of my favorite game series and I’m honestly quite excited for Gunvolt 3.
